A Chinese proverb says that "the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

For some that step is the beginning of the journey to attaining a college education. The decision to attend college is not an easy one; it is a decision riddled with thoughts of strict budgeting, massive time consumption, and of course dedication. Each person has his or her own reason for taking this step, but most would agree that the advantages of getting a degree tremendously outweigh any burden that the journey might place upon them. The journey begins as first-time students enter Freshmen Orientation. Most have no idea what to expect or what major to declare. The choices are overwhelming, but as their time at SWOSU continues they eventually find their niche and settle in. Before long graduation looms near and marks the beginning of yet more education for some, but for others it marks their release into the real world as they continue making the journey.

The seniors at Southwestern chose a university of 5,100 students in Weatherford, Oklahoma. They chose a major in one of the five schools. They studied, they worked, they socialized, they played, but, most important of all, they made it.
