Description
ASTP ONBOARD PHOTOGRAPH – Astronauts Thomas P. Stafford (left), Donald K. Slayton (right), and Cosmonaut Aleksey A. Leonov (upper center) are photographed by Cosmonaut Valeriy N. Kubasov inside the Soyuz 19 orbital module during the historic first joint USA-USSR Apollo Soyuz Test Project on July 17, 1975. The three-man Apollo and two-man Soyuz were docked in space for approximately 47 hours. During that time, they made nearly 29 joint revolutions of the Earth. Stafford and Leonov were the commanders of their respective ASTP crews. Slayton, one of the original group of American astronauts, was the docking module pilot. Soyuz 19 landed in Kazakhstan on July 21, 1975, after spending over 217 hours in space.
Kubasov took this picture using the US crew’s 35mm Nikon F camera with a 35mm lens.
