KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA – The last Saturn launch vehicle (Saturn 1B) rolled out to launch Complex 39-B from the Vertical Assembly Building today. The mission labeled Apollo Soyuz Test Project (ASTP) a joint US/USSR manned flight to be launched July 15, 1975. A Soyuz spacecraft will be launched into Earth orbit from the Soviet Union with a two-man crewl 7-1/2 hours later, an Apollo spacecraft from the United States with its three-man crew will be launched and will rendezvous and dock with the Soyuz spacecraft. The mission objective is to test the compatibility of systems for rendezvous and docking future manned spacecraft and stations and thus improve future space rescue capability. Prime crew for the Soyuz spacecraft of the USSR consists of Aleksey Leonov, Commander, and Valeriy Kubasov.
