Abstract

Welcome to this year's very special Mythopoeic Conference, celebrating both the 50th anniversary of The Hobbit and the 20th anniversary of the founding of The Mythopoeic Society. This, like each Conference of the Mythopoeic Society, is special unto itself. These conferences have been described as a cross between a science fiction/fantasy convention and an academic conference, since there are elements of both to be found. But here one plus one does not equal two it equals three.
