Young, and Eugene A. Cernan were launched on a lunar orbit mission from the Spaceport’s Launch Complex 39B at 12:49 p.m., DST, May 18, 1969. With the Vice President are, left-to-right, Neil A. Armstrong, Apollo 11 commander; Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr., Apollo 11 lunar module pilot; and William A. Anders, Apollo 8 lunar module pilot. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration directs the Apollo program.”
