Cape Kennedy, Fla. – Gemini 9A Astronauts Eugene A. Cernan left, and Thomas P. Stafford examine photographs of the lunar surface transmitted by the Surveyor spacecraft which soft landed on the Earth’s natural satellite 1:17:37 a.m., EST, June 2, 1966. The following morning, June 3, the two astronauts were sent into orbit at 8:39:33 a.m., EST, from Cape Kennedy, to rendezvous and dock with an Augmented Target Docking Adapter 185 statute miles above the Earth. Astronaut Cernan also was scheduled to test a maneuvering unit during extravehicular activity.
