Description

Images from the opening of the Soviet National Exhibition (a.k.a Soviet Trade Exhibit) in Los Angeles, Nov. 12-29, 1977

The following is a letter written by Anatole A. Forostenko to Thomas Stafford:

“2/25/13
Greetings Tom,
Came across these photos of you! History in the making! The event is the opening of the Soviet Trade Exhibit in L.A.
You were one of the invited guests to address the U.S. Business Community.
At the podium is Soviet Minister of Trade, Nikolai Patolichev. Sitting to your left (grey hair & pin striped suit) is Donald Kendall. He is the man who arranged to trade “Pepsi” for Stoli Vodka. The mayor of L.A., Tom Bradley, and Soviet Ambassador, Anatoly Dobrynin took part in the Welcoming Ceremonies.
These photos may be suitable for your museum as they illustrate your pioneering work not only in space by also in trade between USSR & U.S.A.
Baring Capital may not be aware of your contribution in this sphere.
Misha and Stas may find this of interest in their studies.
Enclosing also an article on interning in 2013 for Misha.
All the best,
Anatole

P.S. Larry Gibbons was still active at that time!”
