SWOSU COVID-19 Vaccination Opportunities
- The Delta variant is nearly twice as contagious as previous variants.
- Some data suggest the Delta variant might cause more severe illness than previous strains in unvaccinated persons.
- Unvaccinated people remain the greatest concern.
- The greatest risk of transmission is among unvaccinated people who are much more likely to contract, and therefore transmit the virus.

National Thyroid Awareness Month
The thyroid gland is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located in the base of the neck and its job is to make thyroid hormones, which are secreted into the blood and then carried to every tissue in the body. Thyroid hormone helps the body use energy, stay warm and keep the brain, heart, muscles, and other organs working as they should. It is vitally important to ensure your thyroid gland is healthy and functioning properly. -

World AIDS Day
World AIDS Day is a global initiative to raise awareness, fight stigma, and improve education about HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Around the world, about 37 million people are living with HIV. In the United States, about 38,500 people get infected with HIV every year and many of which don’t even know they have it. Depending on your age, weight, and other factors, you may be at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The good news is that making healthy changes can greatly lower your risk. To help prevent type 2 diabetes:

- Eat healthy
- Get more physical activity

National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month
One in 5 children in the United States have obesity. Childhood obesity puts kids at risk for health problems that were once seen only in adults, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.
The good news is that childhood obesity can be prevented. In honor of National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, SWOSU encourages your family to make healthy changes together.
- Get active outside! Walk around the neighborhood, go on a bike ride, or play basketball at the park.
- Limit screen time. Keep screen time (time spent on the computer, watching TV, or playing video games) to 2 hours or less per day.
- Make healthy meals. Buy and serve more vegetables, fruits, and whole-grain foods. Taking small steps as a family can help your child stay at a healthy weight.

This year, why not make Thanksgiving not only delicious but also a health-boosting experience that’s truer to the origins of the holiday?
