CAPE KENNEDY, FLA. – Astronauts Thomas P. Stafford (left), pilot, and Walter M. Schirra, Jr., command pilot, leave the Manned Spacecraft Operations Building, Merritt Island, on their way to the suiting trailer at launch complex 16. Behind Stafford are Astronaut Alan B. Shepard, Jr., and Dr. A. D. Catterson, Astronaut Physician. Charles Buckley, Security Officer, follows behind Schirra. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has planned Gemini VI as a two-day mission in space. An attempt was made to launch Gemini VI at 9:54 a.m. (EST) today. However, seconds after ignition, the first stage engine of the Gemini Launch Vehicle VI shut down due to a faulty release of a liftoff umbilical plug.
